Basil is an AI. It is a coach, not a doctor and not a medical service. It helps you keep track of your blood pressure between visits. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, or weakness, call 911.

What we collect

Your phone number or Apple ID. Every message you send Basil and every message it sends you, including readings, meals, medicines, symptoms, and photos or voice notes you choose to send. What Basil learns about you from those messages, kept as a short profile so you never have to repeat yourself. Nothing else: no contacts, no location, no health records from anyone but you.

Who can see your messages

A few people on our team may read conversations to keep Basil safe and to make it better. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

Where your messages go

Your texts travel through Apple iMessage to Sendblue, the service that delivers texts for us. Basil writes its replies with OpenAI, which keeps messages for up to 30 days to check for abuse and does not train on them. Everything Basil remembers about you is stored on Amazon Web Services, encrypted, in the United States.

Meal photos are kept for up to a year. Photos of your cuff and voice notes are not stored by us.

If you attach a CSV or Excel spreadsheet for import, the uploaded file is kept for up to 365 days. Original cells and extracted records remain until you delete them. Basil may use OpenAI to interpret an unfamiliar layout; you review and confirm readings before they are added.

Deleting your data

Text DELETE to Basil at any time. It erases your account, your messages, your readings, and your photos from our systems. Backups clear within 7 days and technical logs within 90 days. What Sendblue and OpenAI hold is covered by their own policies.

Your pages

When Basil makes you a page, such as a week of readings or a report for your doctor, it lives at a private link. Anyone with that link can open it, so share it only with people you want to see it. Your link does not expire. Texting DELETE removes your pages and ends the link.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the people who run Basil. No system is perfectly secure, and if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.

Stopping

Text STOP to stop all messages. Text HUMAN to reach a person on our team, usually within a day.

Who Basil is for

Adults, 18 and over, in the United States. Basil is not for children. If we learn that someone under 18 is texting Basil, we pause the account, and if they are under 13, we delete their data.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. If you text Basil from the button here, the conversation happens in your Messages app, not on this site.

The fine print

Basil gives general information to help you track and talk about your blood pressure. It is not medical advice, and texting Basil does not make you a patient of anyone on our team. Decisions about medicines are between you and your doctor or pharmacist. Basil can make mistakes. Check anything important with a clinician.

Texting Basil is free from us. Your carrier's message and data rates may apply. Text HELP for help with the service.

This is a small pilot. This page may change as Basil does, and the date at the top will move when it does. If a change matters to you, Basil will tell you by text before it takes effect.

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York. Questions, or a request to see or correct your data: text HUMAN to Basil, or email hello@textbasil.com.
